Why build with natural materials?
Natural sources can provide almost every component required to build a Corkshack.

Cork, “One of nature’s most extraordinary products”.

Cork, the bark of the cork oak tree, is one of nature’s most impressive raw materials. It’s so exceptional that no man-made product has yet been able to replicate its unique combination of properties. 100% biodegradable, recyclable and renewable, cork is incredibly light, impermeable to liquids and gases, elastic, compressible and resilient. It provides excellent thermal and acoustic insulation and is fire retardant.
To have them all in one single material is truly unique. Nothing else offers this combination of properties making cork a remarkable raw material with matchless properties and endless possibilities.

MDFACADE is a special, expanded insulation cork by Amorim Cork Insulation and is recommended for exterior applications.
• 100% natural and fully recyclable  • Excellent thermal and acoustic insulation  • Mechanical stability  • A healthier natural product
• CO2 sink (Carbon Negative)

Wood

Building with wood has numerous advantages. It is light, flexible, insulates well, quicker to build with and therefore more efficient. Timber construction also offers a solution to many of our current environmental problems. It stores CO2, and an increasing demand for timber will lead to better forest management and to the planting of more forests. Wood is also cost-competitive with traditional building methods and by using standard easy to source materials, the Corkshack is one of the most natural solutions. The use of FSC wood and OSB board is recommended.

Natural thatch tiles

To create a distinctive look, natural thatch is a fantastic choice. Visually interesting, sustainable, environmentally responsible and cost-effective, it’s a material with real appeal. It’s also delightfully varied, so if you have seen one natural thatch, don’t make the mistake of thinking that you’ve seen them all. There are several intriguing possibilities when it comes to natural thatch roofing material. Which one is best for your project?
